Breast Augmentation (Breast Enlargement)

This is one of the most popular procedures performed today.  Having breast implants can give you a more proportional shape and may improve your self esteem.  Augmentation is designed to increase the size of small or underdeveloped breasts and can also restore and enhance your breast volume if it has decreased as a result of pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.  In addition, breast implants for reconstructive purposes after mastectomy or women with asymmetrical breasts may use a single breast implant to balance the difference in size.

The size and type of breast implants designed for you will be determined by your goals for breast enhancement, your existing body frame and mass and your existing breast tissue.  Also, you will decide whether you prefer saline or silicone gel implants.  Both types are FDA approved.  The silicone gel "MemoryGel™" holds together uniformly while retaining a natural give that resembles breast tissue.  The saline filled implants are similar to the fluid that make up most of the human body and have a slightly firmer feel. An added bonus, saline implants can be filled at the time of surgery to allow for modifications in implant size, if you choose.

Individual factors and personal preferences will help us to determine the appropriate breast size for you, the location of incisions and whether the implants will be placed on top of or underneath the chest muscle.  We routinely place the implants beneath the pectoralis muscle so we can keep the implants slightly compressed which gives the implants and breast a full and more natural appearance.

Recovery varies from patient to patient.  Generally, you can return to work in a few days, however, you will be restricted on everyday activities, i.e., lifting limits, exercising, etc.

During your consultation, we will thoroughly discuss all aspects of having breast augmentation, including complications, recovery and placement of implants.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a new breast profile that is youthful and uplifted. A lift raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and give a new breast contour.  Many of our patients have opted for a breast lift along with receiving breast implants.

Your breast lift surgery can be achieved through a variety of incision patterns and techniques.  The appropriate technique will be determined based on your breast size and shape, the size and position of your areolas, the degree of breast sagging and your skin quality and elasticity as well.  Your incisions will be determined during your consultation.  Through these incisions, the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness.  The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful eight. Sometimes the areola also becomes enlarged over time and a breast lift will reduce this as well.

You will experience swelling and discomfort at the incision sites. However, we will prescribe medications that will control the discomfort and reduce the risk of infection.  We recommend that you wear a support bra around the clock for the first week or so. Initial healing may take 5 to 10 days at which time any sutures will be removed.  You should be ready to return to work and normal activity at that time, as long as you do not engage in heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.  Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling dissipates and incision lines continue to improve.

Liposuction

Also known as lipoplasty, liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image.

Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness.

Liposuction surgery can be used to treat stubborn fat pockets in many parts of the body including the thighs, arms, neck, hips, waist, back, inner knee, chest, cheeks, chin, calves, and ankles. In some cases, liposuction is performed alone, in other cases it is used with plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction, or a tummy tuck.

Once your procedure is completed, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover treatment areas. These help to control swelling after liposuction and compress the skin to your new body contours.

It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate after liposuction surgery. As it does, your new contours and enhanced self-image should continue to develop.

The fulfillment you feel from the initial results of liposuction should continue as long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Facelift

If you are bothered by the signs of aging in your face, a facelift may be right for you.  A facelift will remove excess fat, sagging facial skin and muscles and restore firmness to create a more youthful, rested and vibrant appearance.  Facelifting is the ultimate way to treat the aging face.  This procedure lifts and tightens underlying muscles, removes the loose sagging skin of the face and neck and improves unflattering facial wrinkles.  The youthful facial appearance you once enjoyed can be restored with this procedure

Traditional facelift incisions often begin in the hairline at the temples, continue around the ear and end in the lower scalp.  Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls nd neck and underlying tissue is repositioned.  Skin is redraped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away.  A second incision may be necessary to further improve an aging neck.  Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions.

You will experience swelling and may include numbness and discomfort that will be controlled with medication.  You should be ready to return to work and light, normal activity from 2 to 4 weeks.  Cosmetics can usually camouflage any bruising that remains. It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate and up to six (6) months for incision lines to mature.  Once healed, the incision lines are easily concealed within the hairline and the natural contours of the face and ear.

During your consultation, we can discuss other alternatives to the traditional facelift, including a mini-lift or browlift using the Endotine device.

Our face, through expression and appearance, conveys what and how we feel. Visible signs of aging can greatly impact how we feel about ourselves and how others see us.  If you experience a loss of skin elasticity and firmness, sagging tissue and wrinkles, a facelift may be your answer.  See the difference in some of our patients.  Click here for before and after photos.

Endotine MidFace Rejuvenation

A new technology created to provide a less invasive surgery to the typical facelift.  This procedure elevates the area between your lower eyelids and your mouth (which is considered the midface).  By making a small incision in the hairline, and implanting the Endotine Clip, which is a device that has five small tissue holders or tines to grasp the cheek tissue gently but secure elevating this area to a new position.  This device will remain for 30 to 60 days until tissue can naturally adheres to the bone and then disappears as it is absorbed into the body.  Men and women have both opted for this procedure.

Endotine Ribbon Lift

(Lower Jowl Rejuvenation)

The ENDOTINE Ribbon device is intended for use in elevation and fixation of lower facial tissues. Unlike any other traditional method, the ENDOTINE Ribbon’s combination of secure fixation and bio absorbability lets nature’s healing process proceed without residual fixation artifacts to detract from the results, leading to greater patient satisfaction!  The Ribbon can be used as a stand-alone device for minimally invasive rejuvenation of the neck and jowl, or as an adjunct to enhance open face and neck lift procedures.  Used as a stand-alone minimally invasive approach, the Ribbon lift can be performed in minutes per side under local anesthesia.

VeraFil™ Lip Implant

VeraFil™lip implant is a unique solution to thin lips or those lips that are thinning as we age.  What makes this implant different from those of the past? This implant can be adjusted after insertion.  After the implant is placed into the lip and optimal positioning has been achieved, we then inject saline into the implant fill tube until desired volume is reached giving you a customized look.  The fill tube is then removed and the valve self-seals.  You can see the results immediately and has a relatively quick recovery.

The added benefit of the implant it is mostly saline, a natural ingredient that makes up over 90% of your body.  The saline is contained in a very thin, flexible balloon.  This balloon is coated with a special porous material allowing your tissue to gently grip VeraFil™, which keeps it from shifting, bunching or folding.  However, since VeraFil™ is so soft and stretchy it will not restrict movement.  They are available in a variety of lengths, widths and curvatures to give you a very natural appearance full lips.  VeraFil™  is permanent but can be removed at any time.

Eyelid lifts (Blepharoplasty)

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, technically called a blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both by removing the sagging and wrinkled skin surrounding the eyes, giving you a more youthful and rested appearance.

An incision for the upper eyelid is hidden in the eyelid crease and heals very nicely with no visible scarring.  Initial healing may include some swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eye and discomfort that can be controlled with medication, cold compresses and ointment.  Irritation at the incision site is also possible.  These are all common conditions.

Healing of incisions may take 5 to 10 days at which time any sutures will be removed, if necessary.  Generally, you are ready to return to work and to normal activities in about a week and can resume wearing contact lenses.  Cosmetics can camouflage any bruising or redness that remains.  Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling continues to dissipate and incision lines improve.

Blepharoplasty procedures are commonly done in combination with other procedures such as a facelift or TransBleph Brow Lift.  Sometimes the excess skin in the upper eyelid can be resolved with the TransBleph brow procedure alone using the Endotine device. (See Browlift with Endotine Device below)

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

If you desire a tighter, flatter abdomen, then a tummy tuck may be the answer in achieving your goals.  In general, a tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin and in some cases restores weakened or separated muscles.  This creates an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer, often ehancing your body image and confidence.  Sometimes referred to as the "mommy makeover" procedure, women are opting for this surgery after pregnancy or significant weight loss.

A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program.  Although the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in weight.  For this reason, women who may be considering future pregnancies may be advised to postpone a tummy tuck.

There are variations with this surgery, liposuction may be used in conjunction with a tummy tuck or to recontour other areas of the body by removing localized excess fat deposits.  Incision length and patterns will vary depending on the amount and location of the excess skin to be removed as well as personal preference and surgical judgment.

During your consultation, these issues will be discussed at length and which variation of the procedure that will best benefit you and your final result, also what to expect following surgery, recovery and healing will be explained in detail.

Initial healing will include swelling and discomfort at the incision sites, but can be controlled with medications.  The results of the tummy tuck are visible almost immediately, however, it may take several months for your final results to fully develop. Click here for before and after photos.

Browlift with Endotine Device

As the face ages, the brow oftentimes begins to droop or sag causing excess skin to form along the upper eyelids.  A simple, quick and highly effective procedure called the TransBleph Brow Lift using a revolutionary device by Endotine enables us to simultaneously elevate and shape your eye brow and eliminates the excess eyelid tissue as well giving you a refreshed appearance.

The advantages for using the Endotine TransBleph device, there is a single incision made to raise the eyebrow and lift the skin from the eyelid.  The device is then secured to the bone and the incision is closed using very fine sutures.  The device provides reliable, predictable fixation until healing is complete. You will not have to have the device removed because over time the device will dissolve naturally and absorb into the body.  These procedures can be performed in our private and certified surgery center and generally is completed in about an hour or so.

If the TransBleph does not remove all the excess tissue from the upper eyelids, a blepharoplasty procedure can be performed at the same time as the Endotine device. (See Eyelid lifts, blepharoplasty above)

Brazilian Butt Lift

This procedure has been performed for several years, in other countries, and has recently become popular in the United States.  This procedure requires liposuctioning areas of the body, such as the abdomen, flanks and thighs and then transferring the fat into the buttocks by injection.

If you are thin and won't have enough fat to have liposuctioned, alternative procedures may be recommended.  We can make an incision at the base of the buttocks on both sides and we actually lift the muscle up into place, where it should be.  If you are not a candidate for this procedure, we can make the incisions and place implants into the buttocks to achieve a pleasing result.

If you have a desk job, you can generally return to work in two weeks.  We recommend not sitting on the buttocks for a week to ten days and strenuous exercising should be avoided for three months.

Labiaplasty/Labioplasty

Labiaplasty or sometimes spelled Labioplasty, is a surgical procedure involving the labia, or any of four folds of tissue of the vulva (female external genitalia).   It may be undertaken to alleviate discomfort caused by a large or misshaped labia, often interfering with working out, engaging in sports activities, women experiencing discomfort during sexual intimacy or wearing tight fitting clothes.  If not for medical reasons, many women have the procedure wishing to aesthetically enhance the appearance of the vulva to give them a more youthful look or normal appearing labia.

Labiaplasty is performed on an outpatient basis in our surgery center under IV sedation or “twilight sleep”.  After surgery, women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1 – 2 weeks.  You may return to work in one week.

Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty is the art of surgically alternating the position or undesirable appearance of the ears.  Each case of ear surgery is highly individual, as is the delicate and individual anatomy of the ear. We will tailor a technique to precisely correct the exact feature you wish changed, whether the ears are disproportionate, deformed or the most common complaint, protruding ears.

Repositioning protruding ears is widely performed with a good record of safety and fulfilling your goals.  Even when only one ear appears to protrude, ear surgery may be performed on both ears to achieve a more balanced result.  The goal is to create an ear as normal in structure and balanced in proportion to other facial features as possible.

Return to light, normal activity is possible as soon as the day following surgery, as long as the ears are protected.  Dressings will be removed in 5 to 7 days.  Healing will continue for several weeks and incision lines will slowly refine and fade.
